DISSIDENCE

A short film written and directed by Ming-Zhu Hii
& photographed by Nicholas Coghlan

A woman remembers things out of order: the cars parked along the side of the road exploding into flames, the networks falling offline, the lists people were asked to keep, the protests. And at the heart of everything, her love affair with a young photographer under surveillance. A film told in evocative still photographs and recursive poetic narration, DISSIDENCE is a half-remembered dream of desire, love, betrayal and the erasure of freedom in a time of creeping authoritarianism.

This is the story of a disappearance. None of it real. Some of it real.
